How to keep busy during the 2 week wait.
The dreaded 2 week wait when you are trying for a baby can drag on and on. It can be the longest time in history when you’re anxiously waiting to see if the magic two lines comes up on a stick. So how do you cope with the time between trying and finding out if this is the month you’ve managed to conceive?
The most obvious advice people used to give me was to keep busy. I wanted to wail at them: “But I am busy!” And I was. I had a full time job, great friends and a fairly busy social life. But even so I couldn’t help obsessing over if I had fallen pregnant or not.
So some practical steps to keep occupied during the two week wait are:
- Try something new. This isn’t the time to take up extreme sports, but find a local meditation class or a gentle yoga lesson. These are activities which will help slow your racing mind and centre you a bit.
- Forums are your friend. Here at the Huggies forums there are great forums where there are other people going through the same thing you are. It can be a huge relief to share your hopes and worries with like-minded people. They will ‘get’ how you’re feeling and share your joys and sorrows as well.
- Don’t buy any home pregnancy tests until the day you are due to test. Seriously I mean it. As well as being expensive they can make you very stressed out. You can end up testing too early and be hugely disappointed and it may well just have been to early for the result you were hoping for.
- Plan a holiday. Instead of spending time obsessing, spend time planning something new and exciting. You may not end up booking it, but research your dream destination and plan itineraries and spots you want to visit. It’s a very practical way to keep your mind occupied.
Those 2 weeks waiting can be very stressful and it is important to manage any anxiety you have as best you can. How do you keep yourself occupied during the 2 week wait?
