Child Support what a JOKE Lock Rss

I am a newly single mum and am going through the whole child support and parenting payment cr@p at the moment, and was told that I probably wont get paid until mid jan, what a JOKE! Are they serious? Luckily I have a mum who is happy to help out and have some savings, but what about those people who have nothing what are they meant to live off?
That is my whinge about that!

its silly. I think that it should be a priority to let mums get help when they need it. Its silly waiting for all the appointments and interviews and teh waiting and waiting. I hope everything is ok for you until you get your payments and hopefully they will back pay you

Hi bj&noajs mum

What state do you live in? I live in Melbourne. I became a single parent after my partner left me for another woman 5 weeks ago today. I had an appointment with centrelink in less than 2 weeks and got my first parenting payment within 4 days. It was quick.

Child support a little slower. They took two weeks to get back to me and ex with a figure after I lodged the application but we are doing private collect so ex payed straight after amount was calculated.

Hi,

Yes the CSA is very slow. A friend of mine went though a seperation not long ago. It took them months after she lodged the application. They contact your ex first & do all this paper work. Some advice when the payment are approved, get the payment direct debited from your ex's salary/wage then put into your account. You can also apply online for updates on payments. Much quicker then waiting for letters in the mail. Sign up for it. www.csaonline.gov.au & follow the prompts. There you can see all the child support details. Also they ask your ex how the payments will be deducted, weekly, monthly ect. Good news is they back pay you from the day you lodged your papers.

All the best.

going back 20yrs ago when my mum left dad, she got nothing for us kids 3 of us. so for 16yrs mum didnt see a cent.
i dont know if it was mums fault for not chasing it up or if it was the csa fault.

when my partner and i were having problems he moved out for few week they paid me payments and he paid child support i think 1 week later. everything was quick, which i was happy about.

Try seeing it from the fathers point as well please ladies.
My ex has to pay child support for his 7 y/o little girl. Her mother gets paid cash in hand for her job so not only does she earn money through a job she is also going through centerlink saying she is unemployed and getting payments from them, my DP's ex's parents built her a house so she has no rent/mortgage to speak of, not only that she moved across the country when the little girl was 6 weeks old and we are only allowed to see her for 3 weeks every year which we have to pay over $2000 in flights to get her here and home. She stays with her grandmother for weeks at a time and we get a phone call from her once a month if we are lucky. We have a 16 m/o girl together and i am pregnant with our second DP works 40+ hours a week and i work nights just to make ends meet and boy are we struggling.
We don't mind paying child support but we are getting ripped off because she is lying about her income and we are getting ripped off in not seeing her grow up. DP's ex didnt even want child support until she found out i was pregnant for the first time saying "im only doing it because i think you will forget all about your eldest daughter"
Where is the fairness for fathers who want to be a part of their childrens lives. He is a good man and a better father i am yet to meet.
Maybe CSA is slow to respond because there are so many mothers out there trying to rip the system off.

For the PP who said about ex being paid cash you can report that. My friend dobbed in her ex for it and he still refuses to pay $13 a month. DP gets paid cash but he still has to report the income to centrelink.
i went throgh the same thing back in nov/dec last year when i left my x partner. I had to go 3 weeks with no pay at all. I had a b!tch of a lady on the phone at centerlink & she stuffed me around. I had all the cost of moving & everything & had to feed my daughter with harldy any money as i couldn't work very much at the time either. it's total bullcrap really. i got thorugh cause my dad lent me money & my x helped me out where he could. The lady at centerlink stuffed me around because i rang to make a claim from my old address on the day i was moving & she didn't belive me that i was moving out...
yeah my x gets paid cash but still declares it to centerlink & that is how csa worked out how much he has to pay me. i'm sure there are ways you could fight how much you see her & how much you pay. i've never had to worry about that as i still get along ok with my x & we have a personal agreement on how much time he spends with our dd & i would never try to stop him from seeing her. While he is a ahole of a partner he is a great dad & dd loves him to bits. I wouldn't take that away from her. He has her 3 nights a week while i work ( i pick her up & take her home at her dad starts work early in the morning) & she stays over at his place every 2nd weekend.
