We were informed there are concerns about his communication...

Hi. I was not sure who to address this email to so here goes...my son has just turned 18mths and at his 18mth check we were informed there are concerns about his communication and language development. He has been a bit slower in developing for example crawled a bit later and has only been walking properly over the last month. He can say mama, dada, and gaga, baba but has no actual words. He is also not able to follow simple instructions such as put book in box. Should i be concerned yet?? also what should i do?? Thanks

Jacki...
Answer: Hi, Have you gone to see your local GP? My advice would be to see a health professional in your area to check for your own piece of mind. If there is an communication difficulty, baby sign language may assist you in bridging the gap of communication and reduce frustration. We do have an article on my website regarding the stages of development: http://www.australianbabyhands.com/information-for-parents/baby-sign-language-articles/baby-stages-development/ All babies are different and develop at different rates. Best of luck, Jackie
