i have a 3 year old and a 2 year old and when i talk to them i use alot of hand signals and make sure that they look at me when i talk i have just learnt that a child in my sons day care is part deaf and his mother has asked where i have learnt to speak to deaf children and how i thought my children as me and my children and her son aged 3 can have a good chats and we have learnt some new ones and i know that none of our way of talking to him isn`t right and would like to find some where that i can learn the correct way and to teach my children how to communicate to him properly as i don`t wont to confuse him or my children

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your question. In relation to learning sign language, baby sign language can provide you with the stepping stone into learning the language. Australian Baby Hands uses 100% Auslan (Australian Sign Language) signs. There are some words which have more than one word in Auslan and we have used the sign which is easiest for babies to reproduce. You can also approach the Deaf Society in your state and purchase a sign language dictionary. Finally you can go online to www.bilby.net, they have a great range of sign language resources.
