I heard it would be better to teach her the sound of the letters rather than the actual letter itself?
Hi Brett, I have a 13 and 1/2 month old girl. She loves to be read to and she loves to watch me write. I have a magic magnetic sketch board and I write out numbers and the alphabet for her and she loves it when i go over them for her etc. She can count to 6 and has started saying ABC, I heard though that it would be better for me to teach her the sound of the letters rather than the actual letter its self? Is this true? What else can i be doing, she really enjoys this type of interaction.

Hi,
Ask any two teachers this question and you`ll get six different answers! From my own point of view, I think the best thing you`re doing is encouraging the love of books and stories. Obviously your daughter enjoys learning and that`s what`s really important. Try not to get bogged down on whether you`re teaching your child the `right` or `wrong` way. Instead just enjoy the experience together!
Good luck,
Brett
