My 6 yr old son has ear wax leak out of his ear everyday no matter how many times i clean it everyday its the same thing. what could be the cause of this? he is healthy, not sick, eats well balanced diet. should i be concerned and speak to my doctor?
Answer: Hi, Some people, children included, produce a lot of ear wax. In the absence of other symptoms such as pain, redness of the ear, the child pulling on their ear or complaining of not being able to hear, excess ear wax is generally not an issue. If it's smelly or there really is a lot of it then this may be a sign of an ear infection. It would be worthwhile taking your boy to be seen by the GP. They'll be able to look in his ear canals and see what is going on. Don't use cotton buds to clean his ears, this can force wax further into the ear canal. Ears have a "self cleaning" ability so you really shouldn't be doing anything to actually clean his ears. Perhaps just wiping away with a towel or face washer during/after showering. Best Jane
