What are the chances of going into labour before I have my c/s?

Hi Alex,
Just wondering if you could help me out. I am booked in for an "elective" caesarean ( my 2 previous children were by c/s). My doctor has booked me in the day before my 40th week. My last one he delivered at 39 wks - am starting to get a little worried about the timing as we live 120kms away from the hospital that I am having bub at. What are the chances of going into labour before I have my c/s??

Sarah...
Answer: Hi, It is not recommended to have an planned caesarean before at least 38 weeks because of the risk of complications. Try not to worry too much if you do go in to labour, contact the hospital and they will have everything ready well before any problems arise and you will have plenty of time to reach the hospital. Labour starts slowly and gradually. Best wishes, Alex
