I`m 36 weeks pregnant, and I`ve just found out I have gestational diabetes
Hi Alex, I`m 36 weeks pregnant with our second child, and I`ve just found out I have gestational diabetes. There was a combination of lapse in communication and me coming down with a virus, which is why the second test wound up happening about 9 weeks later than it should have. My question is, what are the implications for my baby`s health, and mine too, at this point? I`m also wondering if this has had anything to do with why I seem to have been so prone to any virus wandering past during this pregnancy and why I`ve felt so generally run-down.
It is always best to find out you are experiencing problems with your pregnancy as soon as possible. However, you will have a scan to check the baby’s size and will check your sugar levels regularly to see how stable they are. Try to stick to the set diet and try to exercise as this helps maintain good sugar levels. You may be just generally run down during pregnancy and it does not indicate a greater chance of developing gestational diabetes. Your baby will be check for size, that it is not too small or too big. If your baby is born early it may need to stay in the nursery for a while to check its breathing and sugar levels.
