He has somach pains, he tenses his stomach and pushes his legs out

Hi Alex,
My name is Silvia and I have a son named Julian who is 6 weeks old. From time to time, he has stomach pains. He tenses his stomach and pushes his legs or and then lifts then back up. I can see he is in pain by his face and the way he whinges. Also whilst breastfeeding, he sometimes moves alot, with his head, stomach and legs.
Can you please give me some advice on what I can do and how I can ease the pain for him.
DO you think its a good idea to give him some water? I would also like to introduce a bottle of formula soon, could you please give me some helpful advise and tips on that?
Thankyou so much
Regards,
Silvia

Answer: Hi Silvia, Thank you for your enquiry. From what you have described this behaviour is very normal for a newborn baby. It is advisable to only breast feed at this early stage. Please talk to your Early Childhood Health Centre for ongoing advice. Best wishes, Alex
