I have high platelets. Is there a risk to the baby?

I have high platelets which are slowly rising, the count is still under 500 but I`m worried. The doctor is doing more tests but I dont know what any of it means. Is there a risk to the baby? My hands and feet have also recently started to feel tight and uncomfortable...is this related to high platelets?

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. The platelets are involved with clotting so if your platelets increase you may be at increased risk of clots forming. This condition is easily treated if necessary. The swelling of your hands and feet is due to the increase in fluid that is present in your body during pregnancy and this is very common and to be expected. It is not related to the platelets.
