Is it normal to have labour-like pains straight after having sex?

Hi Alex,
I was just wanting to find out if it is normal to have labour-like pains straight after having sex? I am 23 weeks pregnant with my third child but did not experience this kind of pain with the first two. I did think that it may have to do with my age (35 years old) but I`m not sure. The pains can be described as all the muscles in my lower abdomine contracting and I need to breathe through it until they relax.
Is all this normal or should I see my doctor?

Sarah...
Answer: Hi, Yes this can happen after sex. This baby may be carrying a bit lower in your uterus so you may be more aware of the contractions. After an orgasm the uterus will contract and this is normal. It will not cause labour and will settle quite quickly. Best wishes, Alex
