What are the chances of my causing damage to my baby and what are some birth defects that can accur from overheating?

Hi Alex, I am 8 weeks pregnant, yesterday I went swimming with my 9 year old niece, without even thinking I went in the hydrotherapy pool. I`ve alway known you shouldn`t exercise in the hydro pool. It didn`t even enter my mind at the time! I was in there for about 20 minutes. Thinking back, it wasn`t hot water, I didn`t feel overheated and I wasn`t doing laps or jumping about, I was really just walking up and down, but still I feel very guilty and am worrying about it. What are the chances of my causing damage to my baby and what are some birth defects that can accur from overheating!

Answer: Hi, If you did not feel hot and did not overdo then this is fine. The only real danger is if you are in a very hot pool for an extended period and do feel overheated you can become dehydrated and faint. Best wishes, Alex
