She said this would be my last child as it would have to be ceasarean and you can only have 3?

Dear Alex,
I was wondering if you could help with my question. I am currently 14 wks pregnant with my third child. My first child was delivered via Emergency Ceasarean, my second was elective ceasarean due to a few different circumstances. I asked the doctor at antenatal this week if i could possibly have a Vbac with this one. She said no outright and said this would be my last child as it would have to be ceasarean and you can only have 3?? Is this correct? We don`t nessariarly plan to have anymore children but I would like to have this one naturally if possible..

Answer: Hi, It is very difficult to find a health professional who will try for a vaginal birth after 2 caesareans. You may be able to find an independent midwife who is happy to care for you. The risks are the same as if you have had one caesarean but doctors tend to recommend a repeat caesarean. There are increased risks of complications if you do want more children but it is possible to have more than 3 caesareans. Best wishes, Alex
