I tried to find my cervix last night. But it wasn`t there!

I am 37+1 and had a scan which revealed bubs is 4kg +/- 600 gms. I have an appointment at 38wks to check my cervix and see where bubs is at and whether an induction should be considered. I am 5ft 2in. I went into spontaneous labour at 40+2 which lasted 7-8 hrs with no complications with my son, who weighed 7lb 5oz. I tried to find my cervix last night. But it wasn`t there!! Not unless I couldn`t reach it, but I had two fingers inserted all the way. I have heard that raspbery leaf and evening primrose oil can facilitate ripening of the cervix. What are the indications and recommended dosage/route for these? I am not keen on being induced. Please help!!

Answer: Hi, Try not to worry too much; ultrasounds are not too accurate at predicting birth weight at this late stage. Your first labour and birth sounds very straight forward and without complication so this will definitely help in guiding this birth too. You body is obviously not ready to give birth just yet and in a few weeks everything will look much more organised. Raspberry leaf tea or tablets that have the leaf in them are great in the last trimester. It can help get your body ready for labour. It may be worthwhile at this late stage. Enquire at your pharmacist as to what is available. Best wishes, Alex
