He said this meant there was a chance that the baby will have downs syndrome

Hi Alex,
I was hoping you would be able to give me some advice. My local GP recalled me today about my scan report. He said that the results showed the baby`s nasal bone measurement was slightly shorter than normal and that she has bilateral choroid plexus cysts. He also said that this meant there was a chance that the baby will have down syndrome. I have done a little bit of research about it but I am still really confused and worried. Any advice or information you can give me would be greatly appreciated...Hopefully you can help.
Thanks,
Alicia

Answer: Hi Alicia, If there is a risk that your baby may have congenital problems then you need to decide if you are going to have further tests to confirm this, such as an amniocentesis. The finding of choroid cysts is not significant as they are present in many scans and are part of a baby’s brain development. I am not sure about the nasal bone measurement as this can be something that is normal in your family. You will need to have further investigations before an accurate diagnosis is given as these findings are not a definite indication of Downs Syndrome. Please talk to your local hospital about further investigations. Best wishes, Alex
