Do you have any idea why I am spotting? Am I still at a high risk for miscarriage?

Hi Alex,
I am currently 8 weeks pregnant. This is my fourth pregnancy- I have a 3 yr. old and have miscarried twice. I have been having persistent spotting throughout this pregnancy- not heavy but there most times when I wipe after going to the toilet. I had a scan at 6 weeks and then again earlier this week at 8 weeks. The lady doing the scan found a heartbeat of 170 and said everything looked good. The baby is placed up high in the uterus and we could see where the umbilical cord attached the baby to the placenta. She said there was no bleeding evident in the sack and she couldn`t see where it was coming from. Do you have any idea why I am spotting? Am I still at a high risk for miscarriage? I didn`t have bleeding with my first pregnancy which was my only successful one so far.
Thanks for your help

Answer: Hi, It does sound as if everything is good with the pregnancy; however, any bleeding in early pregnancy does carry a risk of miscarriage. Unfortunately you will have to wait another few weeks until you pass through the danger period for miscarriage. Hopefully the bleeding will settle and the pregnancy will continue. Best wishes, Alex
