I wasn`t able to breastfeed due to severe soreness/ blister/ bleeding nipples

With my first two bubs I wasnt able to breastfeed due to severe soreness/ blister/ bleeding nipples although i wanted to so badly! The pain got so bad i started to resent baby and would take a couple of minutes for my hubby to persuade me to feed her as she would than be crying histerically!(It made me feel like a bad unloving neglectful mother)2nd bub just went on to formula!

I am due soon with 3rd bub and am desperately wanting breastfeeding to be successful for health and financial benefits! I was shown a couple of times the right way to go about breastfeeding but ended up giving up to formula after just a couple of weeks with my first 2.

What do u think?? Is there a problem with me?? Gosh, ive been surrounded by professionals, midwives etc but just cant seem to get it right!I really want to enjoy that bonding time with baby... but just without the pain and frustration! And i definetly dont want to give up rd time round nd put her on formula!

Hope to hear from u sn

Answer: Hi, Many women do experience difficulties breast feeding and it does take lots of patience and persistence to make it work. Sometimes a decision is made to stop breast feeding as both the mother and baby are unhappy. If you do want to establish breast feeding this time you need to be preparing now. You need to stimulate your nipples and express regularly a small amount of colostrum on to your breasts. This will help you be more familiar with your breasts and toughen them up a bit for feeding. Talk to your midwives and get some support and advice now for the future. Best wishes, Alex
