Folate during pregnancy

I am 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I am wondering whether I should still take folate until the end of my pregnancy as I have heard conflicting information. A pregnant friend has also suggested that I try taking the tablets for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Blackmores I think. What do you suggest?.

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. Folate is recommended several months before a planned pregnancy and the first three months of pregnancy. You can take a pregnancy supplement for pregnancy but if there are no recognised problems with your blood results they are not considered as necessary. Best wishes, Alex.
