I have been told that I have to have a detailed morphology ultrasound

Good Afternoon Alex, My partner and I have just recently found out that we are 6 months pregnant and have been told that our baby is due on February 19th 2008. I am a 18 year old female and this will be my partner and I`s first child which we are thrilled about. I did not even know that I was pregnant and I have had a MRI done at the end of September. I am worried that my baby may have some abnormalities, as I have only had one ultrasound and they did not pick up any abnormallities. I have been told that I have to have a detailed morphology ultrasound but at the moment I do not recieve any income and everytime I have an ultrasound it costs me $200. Can you give me any advice/suggestions on what I should do.

Sarah...
Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. If you are attending a public hospital for your pregnancy care and the ultrasound is for medical reasons it should be free. Please talk to your carers about this and you may be able to visit another ultrasound clinic. All pregnancy care is covered by medicare. The MRI more than likely will have not caused any problems as the pregnancy was quite advanced at that stage. Most studies evaluating MRI safety during pregnancy show no ill effects. Best wishes, Alex.
