What are the risks of being over 35 and having a baby?

Hi Alex. I have just found out i am pregnant with my second baby. I am 35 years old, and will be 36 before the birth. What is the increase risks of being over 35 and having a baby. And is there anything different I should do this time to ensure everything goes smoothly. Thanks Megan

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. Many women now days are pregnant when they are older. There is an increased chance of genetic abnormalities and you may be offered tests to check for this in early pregnancy. It is advisable to ensure that you have a healthy diet and exercise regularly to try to avoid complications. You may also be a bit more tired than before. Best wishes, Alex.
