The scar seems puckered at the entrance

Hi, my son is 11 weeks old and I had a vaginal delivery with him with 2nd degree tear and stitches. The scar seems puckered at the entrance and my GP gave me a caustic pencil to burn it away. This didn`t seem to work too well and now I don`t feel confident going back to him cause he didn`t seem to care. It is a bit painful and DH and I haven`t been able to resume sex. Also, I still have quite a bit of discharge (sorry if TMI) it is quite clear but has quite a powerful odour, is this normal? My bleeding stopped at about 3 weeks and this has been ongoing ever since.

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. It is not unusual to have some longer term problems with your perineum after giving birth and they do tend to settle after around 6 months. However, if you have an offensive odour coming from the wound, you may have an infection and need to have a course of antibiotics. Please visit a different GP for a second opinion and treatment - ask around for a recommendation - call the local maternity unit for advice. Best wishes, Alex.
