They didn`t want a urine sample

hi Alex, I have a few worries at the moment. I went to my first hospital appointment last week at the hospital (before that i was going to my GP) and they didnt want a urine sample (i was 18 weeks ) they said that they only need one if i have any problems, is that right?. Also they had to book me in for my 18 to 20 week ultrasound, i couldnt get in until i am 21 weeks is that ok. I go back in 4 weeks from last week for another check up and then they hand me over to the midwife`s for my further appointments. This is my third pregnancy and very different to my last 2. Thanks .....Danielle

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. There is a lot of evidence around today that suggests that urine testing in pregnancy does not provide any proof or warning of any complications of pregnancy so it is not done at many maternity units now. A later ultrasound should be fine but if you do think that you may be experiencing any complications, such as bleeding, then you need to be seen earlier. You sound as if you have been classed as a low risk pregnancy which is great and you should have less intervention and more time to enjoy the pregnancy and get to know your carers before the birth. Best wishes, Alex.
