Asking for advice about sick kids
Today I am asking for advice. Mainly because I am at my wits end with this situation and really don’t know what else to do.
So far winter has not even really kicked in here and Mr Small (my youngest child) has already been struck down with a horrible virus twice in the past two weeks. His temperature shoots sky high, he coughs and is miserable. Panadol brings it down for a while, but it rockets back up as soon as the medicine wears off.
I can’t wrap him up in cotton wool which frankly, is my preferred option. So even though I’d like to keep him locked up with me until winter is over, I can’t. I still have the school run, my own work job as well as numerous commitments.
And really, though I love staying at home I don’t think it’s good not have physical contact with the outside world. I know there are lots of parents who face the same problem when their kids are sick. It’s so hard to be stuck at home with them. Though you’re doing a much better thing than taking your sick child out and infecting other people. That makes me really cranky when people knowingly take their sick kids places. I know far too many medically fragile children who have become extremely ill because of attitudes like this. I’ll save that rant for another blog post ;)
I’m lucky we have a great GP so he has been well looked after in terms of visiting the doctor and him reassuring and advising us.
But here’s my question.
How do you keep your kids healthy during the winter months?
I’m trying probiotics at the moment and trying to shovel as much in the way of fruit and vegetables down his throat as well. What else can I or should I be doing?
Tips and advice VERY welcome.
