Want opinions on parking a manual car - help settle a debate! Rss

Not baby related at all!

Dp and I have a long standing debate over whether to leave a manual car parked with it in gear and handbrake on or in neutral with the handbrake on.

I always leave it in gear and with the handbrake on as am sure I got taught this was the safest way to park. (Let's call this option A)

However he insists leaving it in gear is not the way to do it and when he drives my car he parks and just puts the handbrake on, leaving the gear in neutral. (Option B. )

What do you guys do?

I am no help as I only have an automatic licence. Sorry!!

On an incline, park it in gear with handbrake. Reverse if nose is down and 1st gear if nose is up. On flat ground, in neutral with handbrake.

I always leave it in gear. That's how I was taught. If the handbrake fails the car won't roll far!

It will only roll start if the keys are in the ignition, the engine is turned on and the driver releases the clutch while rolling. I'm pretty sure anyway.

Always in neutral, would only leave in gear if on a really steep hill.
When I had a manual I always left it in gear with the hand brake on.

There are different license types?????

In gear with the handbrake on & tyres turned towards the curb smile

I would leave it in gear with handbrake on. That is what I was taught all those years ago!!!

Option A for both DH and I.
