PLacnta praevia Lock Rss

I was diagnosed with grade 4 placenta praevia at 23 weeks and spent a week in hospital then with only a slight bleed. I have just had a 33 week ultrasound that detected my placenta had moved and was 1.2cm from the os. Am I still regarded as a Grade 4 and is the risk as high as before, as far as more bleeding or taking it easy?? I go for another ultrasound at 36 weeks to see where it is....

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry. It does sound as if your placenta has moved away from the os as your uterus has grown. It hopefully will move even further from the os as your pregnancy progresses and you can try for a natural birth. At this stage the placenta is still considered to be quite low but the risk of bleeding is reduced, than if it was still covering the os. It is best that you check with your health care professionals to double check your results and then get the official all clear.

Best wishes in the weeks ahead,

Alex.
