Thank you for your enquiry. If your baby was born without a fontanelle (the soft spot on top of the head) she really needs to be assessed thoroughly by a specialist pediatrician. They may want to do some more tests, such as X-rays and a CT scan to check if the skull is formed properly and is growing as expected. Thankfully, this condition is not usually related to any mental retardation. Sometimes an operation is needed to give the brain some room to grow but in other cases intervention is not necessary and the skull develops as expected. It is best that the condition is properly assessed and then monitored as your daughter grows.
