ultrasound showed blood around gestation sac Lock Rss

Yesterday I had an ultrasound that showed a healthy 8 week baby. But then the technician told me she could see blood (only a little bit) around the gestation sac. She said she only told me in case i bleed after the internal because that would have been the cause of it.

What did she mean by blood around the gestational sac and is it serious?

Hi,
Thank you for your enquiry. Blood around the gestational sac in early pregnancy can mean many things. It is thought that it could be the blood from the lining of the uterus as the sac implants. It can be also due to other factors. Midwives do not recommend early ultrasounds as they tend to just cause undue worry and there is no real reason to do an ultrasound so early unless there are major complications. It may be best to talk to your health professional for a full explanation as they are able to view your full medical history.
Best wishes,
Alex.
