how long till things are back to normal? Lock Rss

I had a third degree tear 41/2 mths ago with my first baby.Things are still painful when having intercourse. The doctor said that he had done a great job of my stitching but i'm not too sure? And will I tear again next baby?
Hi,
Thank you for your enquiry. It can take many months, even up to a year, for a third degree tear to feel comfortable. Try not to worry too much just yet but if you feel that you are experiencing extraordinary problems that continue it is best that you get it checked over. You also need to regularly do your pelvic floor exercises as these can be very beneficial. If you have had a third degree tear, you are at an increased chance of tearing again but not a third degree. Your carers will take great care and will do all that they can to prevent a third degree tear and some may even suggest an episiotomy.
Best wishes,
Alex.
