Itchy hands and body Lock Rss

just wondering if there is anything wrong, I am going on 26 weeks and have very itchy hands and feet at night and sometimes my back. I was reading about something you can get that involves your liver function and that you have to have a blood test to diagnose. Is there something I can do about the itching? Could there be anything wrong?

Hi
Its called obstetric cholestasis. You will have to go to your doctor who will send you for a blood test. I also had this. It was more all over body. I was put on medication to stop the itchiness and monitored more closely. The tablets helped though.
Hi,
Thank you for your enquiry. It's not uncommon to feel itchy in some areas, particularly around your growing belly and breasts as your skin stretches to accommodate them. Pregnancy hormones may also be partly to blame.

Some women also find that their palms and the soles of their feet get red and sometimes itchy during pregnancy. This condition, which usually disappears right after delivery, may be caused by an increase in estrogen.

Finally, you may find that certain conditions that normally make you itchy (such as dry skin, eczema, or food allergies) make you even itchier when you're pregnant.

There is also a very rare condition that affects your liver during pregnancy. I have included a link with more information about this condition. http://www.itchymoms.com/pages/guidetodiagnosis.php
If you are at all concerned it is best that you discuss it further with your carers.
Best wishes,
Alex.
