How do I wean a 3 1/2 month off a dummy Lock Rss

My son has a dummy to settle himself off to sleep. That is the only time during the day/night that he has it. He spits it out and I end up standing over him with my finger poised to catch the dummy. I have tired leaving him for 10 minutes to see if he settles himself, it has worked on the odd occassion but most of the time I stand there with the dummy, more so at night.
I am worried that he is becoming too dependant on it and that will be the only way he will go to sleep.
Am I worrying over nothing?

Hi,
A dummy, and the constant loss of it can be the cause for frequent waking. It does sound like it is becoming a sleep association and you would be wise to get rid of it now.

Try using some settling techniques instead. You can get details for this on Your Baby’s Sleep page or from It’s Time to Sleep DVD&BOOK .

Huggies have a great discount offer on at the moment – see Member Exclusive Book Offers.
