Help. Our baby hates to sleep. Lock Rss

We have a baby girl who is now eight weeks old. Currently she is lucky if she sleeps for a three hour block during the day sometimes at one hourly intervals and about 5-6 hours at night. On advice from our MHN and a sleep specialist we tried to get her into the feed, play, sleep routine. This worked for about one week. Now she feeds, plays and then it is a battle to get her to sleep. Sometimes this battle can last until her next feed and beyond. We have tried rocking her, walking, driving her in the car. wrapping her and holding her close and even increased her feeds but all to no avail.
Sometimes i think we only get that 5-6 hour block during the night because she has worn herself out that much she can no longer fight it.
Please help. I know its hard enough for adults to exist on this amount of sleep but it surely can't be any good for her.

Hi,
Firstly you will need to stop the rocking/walking/driving.

The feed/play/sleep and the wrapping is a MUST, then you can follow the settling techniques for newborn to 6 months by having her facing away from you on her side and patting for 15 min intervals. You can get full details from Your Baby’s Sleep page or from <a href="It's time to sleep</a"http://www.itstimetosleep.com/">It's Time To Sleep DVD&BOOK.

If you are in Melbourne and would like to have some one on one assistance let me know.

Cheers Maree
