10 Week old has gone from good to bad day sleeper Lock Rss

Hi Maree

I have a ten week old baby girl Holly. She has never been a big day sleeper but fantastic at night. A couple of weeks ago she would get grumpy through the day so I would wrap her, put her in the cot with her dummy and off to sleep she went. Over the last week she has decided day sleeps are not for her. She will not cry, she will just stay in her cot and make noises. I have taken to leaving her. She takes up to about an hour, by the time she falls asleep she is unwrapped. She will only then sleep for about 45 minutes and wakes again. If I go in there she smiles at me. People have said if she is not upset she must not need the sleep. My three and a half year old sleeps more than her. Is it OK for me to leave here in her room awake for such a long period of time or should I be doing something else.

Please HELP!

Hi Sonia,
If you were to follow a feed /play sleep routine, you would feed baby when she wakes then play and watch for tired signs and then when these signs are displayed you can settle Holly awake into the cot.

If you believe she is tired then butting in on her play time may be necessary.

Give her 10 mins in her cot and then start some settling techniques, this will give her a clear message that it's time to sleep

You can get details for our settling program from Your Baby’s Sleep page or from <a href="It's time to sleep</a"http://www.itstimetosleep.com/">It's Time To Sleep DVD&BOOK

Cheers Maree
