Head shaking before sleep Rss

Dear Maree,

My 1 year old boy Daniel only manages to sleep by vigourously shaking his head from side to side. Quite often this brings his head in contact with the top or sides or the cot and mats the hair at the back of his head. Any attempt to stop him scares him (as he also does it in his sleep). He has done this from about 5 months of age. Will he grow out of it, or do we need to take action to stop the shaking.

Thank you,
Jo

Hi Jo,

I would suggest that you consult your doctor about this behaviour, but it sounds like this has become a sleep association for him. If it’s okay with your doctor I would suggest that you get a copy of <a href="It's time to sleep</a"http://www.itstimetosleep.com/">It's Time To Sleep</a> DVD & Book and follow the settling techniques, this could be hard at first but it should break the habit of the head shaking, this may take up to 3 weeks of persevering.

Best of luck, Maree
