Suddenly 14.5 month won't go to sleep at night! Rss

Hi Maree

Hopefully you may have an answer to my problem...

Up until last week my 14.5 mth old girl has been a fabulous sleeper. She had a 3hour sleep during the day and then would sleep from 8.30 pm - 7.30am. We would just put her straight into the cot and leave her to sleep.

However, last week she suddenly started crying and fussing when we tried to put her down for the night. Now she is staying up until after 9.00 pm each night (the other night it was almost 11.00pm!). When we try to put her in the cot she screams and cries and if we leave her she inevitably works herself into such a state and vomits all over the place. What happened? We haven't done anything differently and she is eating okay through the day.

How do I get her to go to sleep on her own again? I can't leave her to cry as she just get s too distressed? What do I do? HELP!

Hi,

It’s hard to say why our precious babies change for no reason, she may just be having a bad week, or she may be starting to not need a 3 hour nap during the day. Watch for tired signs and act on them. The vomiting is a power play to get your attention and it works!
Instead of just leaving her, you might like to try our controlled comforting techniques where we only leave them for short periods of time.

You can get details for these techniques from Your Baby’s Sleep section or from <a href="It's time to sleep</a"http://www.itstimetosleep.com/">It's Time To Sleep DVD&Book.

Cheers Maree
