Could somebody please tell me what a sleep cycle is and also what is meant by a catnap?
Sleep cycles and cat naps
hi pricep,
adults have a sleep cycle of 90 minutes in which you have deep sleep and light sleep. at the end of the 90 minutes you wake up, but wont remeber this, you may roll over or change position and go straight back to sleep.
babies have a 45 minute sleep cycle. if a baby wakes after this time then they are cat napping as they dont know how to put themselves back to sleep (even though they are still tired). anything over an hour is classed as a sleep.
my DS has been a catnapper, but with LOTS of work, consistency and patience he is gradually learning how to resettle and get the day sleep that he needs!
