How to tell if your breast is emptied? Lock Rss

How do you tell if baby has emptied out one of your breast before you go to the other breast? Is it if baby decides to just stop herself or is it when she just sucks but not swallowing? Thanks!

Sheila, Akld NZ, baby Stephanie born 28/3/06

Usually when you first start feeding there is a suck swallow motion. As your brests empty there is more sucks to swallows. Some women can actually feel their milk being drained. They will pull off if they have finished or they are not getting enough. There is never any harm in offering the other boob.

You can also feel your breast as well as it is emptied it will be very soft at the top and if you feel down it should feel the same all the way
u can feel ur breast is a lot lighter....almost like jelly kinda feeling.

Hi Shola,

The breast feels squishy and once it is emptied and when theres nothing left bubs usually detaches themself. You can offer the other side and if bubs is hungry she will take it. Sometimes it is a bit of comfort sucking but theres not much harm in that and it helps increase milk supply. Good luck!
