Losec Rss

Ds is 2 weeks old and I believe has silent reflux. It's affecting our feeding and milk supply. Wondering if I should seek medical intervention. Dd also had it and I refused medication which resulted in my milk drying up. Arghhhh why do my kids have to have it.

My DS was formally diagnosed at the age of 5 weeks old and was put on Losec straight away. It worked miracles for him!

He spent those first 5 weeks of his life screaming all the time. He was a very unhappy little man who literally slept for maybe an hour at a time and then would be awake and screaming for 2-3 hours before getting so exhausted he would sleep for maybe another hour. It was a very testing time as I had a toddler as well and a DH that worked away. I do sometimes wonder how I survived those few weeks. <img src='https://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

So, DS was 5 weeks old when put on Losec. They didn't have it available in liquid form back then, so we had to put the tablet in a syringe, suck water up into it and then shake it til it was reasonably dissolved before giving it to him. He hated it! BUT he started sleeping for 4 to 5 hours at a time once he was on it.

I can't remember exactly how long he was on it for, but after a while, we took him off Losec and used a natural product called Brauers Stomach Calm. This worked just as well as the Losec, and even better was that it was all natural. Might be something you can try? Although I am thinking that you can only give it to babies from 6 weeks old? I can't remember now. You can get it over the counter at most chemists.

Good luck! smile

My DD was out on losec at 3 weeks old. I took her to the GP who gave her gaviscon but it was difficult to give her (had to syringe it into her mouth) and didn't help her reflux. I then took her to a pediatrician who put her on losec (your GP can prescribe it). It has worked wonders she is a completely different baby. I find it easy to give her- comes in a capsule that you open and put the granules into her mouth. Just wet your finger dip it in the granules and put your finger in their mouth.
Both my boys needed reflux medication from a few weeks old. My eldest grew out of the problem at about 6 months, but my youngest now 16months still needs it. As well as having his bed slightly elevated and avoiding acidic foods as much as possible.

I found it very helpful having them on the medication and although I usuallly love Brauers range I found for this particular problem they did not offer much help if any.

Good luck! I hope you both can get some relief.

My DS was on it from a few weeks old until 11 months. We tried to stop it at 6months and he went back to be being shocking so we continued it. He may have been able to stop a little before 11 months but I wasnt going to risk it again, I wanted to be completely sure he would be ok with out.
my eldest son had severe reflux and was on losec from 5 weeks to 2 years.

they said that we should stop it at 2 and see if he still spews or is uncomfortable and if there was no improvement they would have to do all these test to find out what was wrong and eventually operate sad

luckily it did stop but i think he will always have this problem to some degree as he still occasionally gets it and he is 5.5 now.

the poor thing developed a food phobia because of this and it has been an uphill battle for him. the phobia started at 14 months and still to this day he has problems with food.

so better to get it checked out sooner rather than later.

good luck.

The day i broke up with normal was the first day of my magical life...

DD3 was put on losec at 5.5 months... and is still on it now at 15 months.. we have tried stopping and the screaming starts again so paed tells us to continue.
What has this medication got in and how long did it take to start working?

Ive got a paed appointment next monday for her reflux because my bub too screams for hours on ends, she still sleeps good once we can get her to sleep but she is forever vomiting even on her solids. Shes being very testy with her crying lately so hopefully the doc can sort her out pronto. I was going to try avoid any medication but there seems to be a lot of people usuing this one so it must be half decent?
Have no idea what is in it but it takes a week to work.
