its weird cause i thought the same thing when i was due to have bub cause at the end of pregnancy i swam heaps hoping it might help and plus i was weightless LOL
i really think u would tell as with my second pregnancy my waters broke and i felt it on the inside of my tummy it was like a "POP" and then i had the fluid, but then i think others would say they "think" it is their waters but they are not sure and it turns out that it is and they havent felt the pop
i guess maybe it has to do with the individual and where exactly where the waters break

Hi! My waters broke while I was in the shower at the hospital and I DEFINITELY knew!!

I read some where that the actual amount of fluid you lose when your waters break is something like two tablespoons but that certainly wasnt the case for me!!

I had two shower jets going full blast, when I felt this sensation like a giant balloon bursting inside of me and there was this HUGE splattering sound on the floor as all this fluid gushed out of me! I'd say there were litres there- not tablespoons!!!

My waters broke whilst i was doing my groceries so i definatly knew too and the same as me i felt a "POP" first then when i took my next step it gushed everywhere and kept gushing till i gave birth!!

I think it depends. My mum doesn't remember her water breaking at all. Mine was like the others have described. I felt an internal 'pop' and as soon as I moved there was water everywhere. The two tablespoon thing is interesting! There was certainly more than 2 tablespoons with me - I'm talking continual gushing. I got quite a shock actually!
my waters broke on their own with DS#1 and it was like a big pop in my belly.
Hi - my waters broke on their own with my son, and I felt like I needed to do a wee really bad - so I was running to the loo when I actually felt it let go. I thought I had wee'd myself, but it was really like a big gush of fluid which hit the floor, not a trickle. I agree with the others - you can actually feel it. It feels a bit like you have 100% lost control of your bladder. The fluid is also really, really warm (and smelly). Also, for me, the fluid kept trickling out after that. My mucous plug appeared as soon as my waters broke, so that was another sign.

Thanks everyone, from reading these i'm pretty confident now that I will know when "IT" happens. So scary. Not long to go now (3 weeks), every time i head to the super market I think of the horror stories that you hear about it breaking while shopping. Fingers crossed for a night time breakage... Making it to the tiles in the ensuite of course!

Thanks again for these replies.
