have you discussed this with your MW?

Is there support/braces you can wear when your tummy gets heavier?
Yes I would discuss it further with your doc/midwife. Also physio is great and swimming can help..
I would talk to your doc about this.

I have also been experincing terrbiel back pain - to the point of I couldn't walk and would wake up with the pain :S
I finally saw my doctor today and he seems to think that it is a UTI. So please get it checked out!!

I have been given antibiotics as a precaution. Plus I had to give a urine sample.

Keeping fit and healthy in pregnancy!!

I have just came across the same problem (this week) - im currently 27 weeks pregnant with twins and last weekend all of a sudden got this terrible biting pain in my lower back and in the left leg - so much pain that by the end of the day i could not walk and hardly move. i tried to get into my general physio who really didnt do much - i felt let down as all of a sudden my mobility was gone, i thought that is the end of me for the pregnancy... bed ridden. i contacted my baby doctor - who refered me to a maternity physio specialist (Brisbane southside area)
I am sooo glad i found her - i have wasted so much time and money going to your general every day physio who are too scared to touch pregnant women etc - then i find her and she answers all my questions and makes sense.she treats pregnant women everyday.
google - Symphysis publis dysfunction.
in a nutshell this is what is happening to your body - your pelvis wants and needs stability - but your hormones are wanting your body, muscles and uterus to relax to make room for bub - they are fighting forces - which ultimately cause pressure on the sciatic nerve - which is that terrible sensation down your left or right side. i find it hard to walk, turn in bed, sit up, you name it - it bites everytime.
Her view is - us pregnant women have a small window, we dont have the rehab time most physio's think we do to do all these exercies to help the muscles - because ultimately our body changes everyday - so rather than treat it to go away,(and in some cases the exercises that we are given are painful) stablise it, make you comfortable and after birth address the problem. But in saying that - the hormone that is trying to relax us, is out of our system about 1hr afer giving birth and that nerve pain will go.
She has given me a belt to wear across my bum - which gives the pelvis stablitiy - it gives me relief and i am able to walk without as much pain. Basic things like
sit down to put shoes and undies on
no long walks
no trolley shopping (turning the trolley aggrevates the nerve)
REST REST REST
in bed when u want to turn, put a pillow in between your knees, squeeze the pillow and turn.
i hope that helps smile

This sounds similar to what I've had and earlier this week it moved around to the front. My dr told me its the hammock like muscles which supports the uterus stretching. Id ask your midwife or dr about it. I've been told to take panadol osteoto help the pain. But id ask a dr before taking anything.
