Woman TTC after Depo Injections. Lock Rss

Hi there tongue

I have tried to find a group of woman, or even just one or two i can discuss things with who are TTC after being on the depo injection.

I was on the depo for almost 2 years. I didn't get a period at all on the injection after I had my 2nd one.

DH and I are wanting to try for baby #3.

I was due my injection on the 7th of June 2010, but obviously decided not to have it. I read a lot of information, and was frightened at the thought that it could possibly take us 2 years!!!

TTC #3 was always just something we spoke about that might happen later on down the track, however when i read about this possible 2 years, i decided then that i would get off the injection to be sure that when we were definate my body would be in working order!

However....

Now I'm off it and the thought of another baby.. I'm really excited, and i want it to happen asap!!

I cramped for about 3 weeks after depo which my doc said was most likly my lining thickening up again. She said now you just need to wait for your period.

It's here!!! I read some woman wont bleed for months after, but alas... Mine arrived on the 28th.

Is there anyone in the same boat? Do you think it's possible that now I have a period that I may be close to being ready TC?

Some people go back to normal straight after but just wait and see first.
I had no af whilst on depo and when I finished I had af a few weeks after then it came back about 10 days after that, then the next one was about 15 days after that one, then about 21 days, then 25 days then 26 which is my normal cycle.
Then I conceived 1 month after that smile
You could try going to a naturopath, they can give you herbs to strengthen your cycle and get it back on track, and they work!

Evening !
I thought Id share my story with you, I was on depo for 3 yrs never had any probs or any AF before we decided to TTC for DS, it took 6 mths to concieve him, immediately my cycles returned to normal. Between DS and DD we used no contraception as we wanted 12 mths between them (theres 14 mths) When DD was approx 4 mths old I returned to a new job an didnt want to fall preg for 9 or so mths so I went off the mini pill an onto the depo needle once again. I only had it once, I didnt go and get it in sept last yr, I immediately started bleeding for 21 days (apparently a withdrawal bleed) I then stated bleeding the end of Nov, for 10 days, AF came 28 days after that lasting 7 days, an I have had a normal 28 day cycle since, we BD often and at signs of ovulation, I actually M/C 3 wks ago at 6 wks, so we are hoping to try again. So 8 mths all up we have been trying, also at the time I was on the depo I was BFing DD also till the end of october. I wish you all the luck, its hard, but so worth it in the end.

Hey there! Well, I was on depo for 1.5yrs, no af. Didn't go back for my injection, which was due 15 December, had no AF until April (which lasted a whole month) then kept getting it on and off and just went through a spontaneous abortion last week. blink So, we've been using no contraception for 8 months now and I'm still not pregnant. sad That's great that you got AF back so fast! It means that your body is adjusting really well to coming off it. Hopefully you end up pregnant soon!!

What does AF mean? tongue I don't do the lingo ha ha.

I am really concerned, and slightly depressed at the thought of it taking forever.

haha oh AF = Aunt Flo (period)

Apparently it's pretty common to bleed for a long period of time as the Depo is exiting your system. I'm a little confused though because I had 2 doctors tell my that depo is well and truly out of your system within 4 months...my body is STILL trying to right itself after 8!
Yes, my doc told my depo is out of the system well and truely by 3 months. However she said people do get pregnant within that 3 months.

FIngers crossed we all have some luck... coz i know it's driving me insane and it's only been a month!

Hey, thought i would add my story.
I was on the depo for over 4years when DH and i decieded that within the following two years we would want kids. My docter at the time told me that there was no way id get peggy in the next year at least, but wrote me out a script for the mini pill. taking what he said i was rather slak with my pill taking. and just short of a month after my injection was due i got a very light period and the next month i was preggy with DS1. pregncy was normal and healthy, and the midwife said that the placenta when inspecting it was "beautiful" (not sure that words relevent, but was her words).
though it does depend on you and your body when you concieve and how you react to the depo, but hopefully you wont take much longer to concieve.
Two words for depo...NEVER AGAIN.

I was on it for 6 months. Spotting the whole time. It was imbarassing for me when it came to being intimate with my partner. I always had to wear a liner. I cramped and had period pain type pain all the time.

It took us 12 months to conceive. They say 12-18 months. I ended up taking raspberry leaf tablets (Natures Own) after my last injection. Just to get things back on track. It isnt recommended long term use of raspberry tabs. Just a month or two. I had a period after 8 weeks.

I will never get depo nor will i ever recommend it. Even my obstetrician hates the stuff. And she's a specialist.

AM NO LONGER TINKERING WITH THE TICKER HMPH!

Oh wow! I like stories like this. About 3 weeks after i was due for depo i bled. Lasted from 28th June to the 3rd July. Now it's gone. So i'm in full hopes that this is my time and everything will be right. I don't want to be waiting for years =(

I agree!!! Never again for depo with me again either. I think i will get an IUD put back in again after we have #3. I had the IUD between DS1 and DS2. She took it out and 6 weeks later i was 4 weeks pregnant. Never had an issue with it at all.

Yeah as much as I LOVED being on Depo, I don't think I could ever go back on it after what my new doctor and natropath told me. Apparently depo was created for mentally disabled people so that they don't get their period and they don't get pregnant. It's designed to mess up all the hormones (there's a 99.2% success rate as a contraceptive). Apparently there are a lot of doctors petitioning to get Depo taken off the market and it is considered a controversial contraceptive. I've done a bit of research on it and yes, it is a bad drug.

I wish I was told this before. Talk about lack of informed consent!! DH will be getting the snip after this one so no stress....but I might look at the mirena.
