Perfect Potion Lock Rss

A friend gave me a bottle of 'Perfect Potion - New Life Massage Oil' at my baby shower.

I have heard some aromotherapy is dangerous for bub ... has anyone heard anything on this product.

The instructions on the front say 'to be used during pregnancy to help relieve tension and keep skin supple'.

Hi Jo, congratulations! I see you have since had your baby & thought I would reply to your post for others out there who might wonder themselves about aromatherapy.

I do not know about the product you had, but I use my oil burner ocasionally and you do have to be very careful using the oils.
The oils are ment to be more diluted than usual (down to 1-2% I think I read) & there are certain oils which are you should not use in pregnancy, I think the main one to avoid is Rosemary, I think it is a stimulant & can raise blood pressure, but these are the ones that I read about and found "must" be avoided:

Aniseed, Basil, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Cypress, Fennel, Jasmine, Juniperberry, Marjoram, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Rosemary, Thyme

Lavender, Rose, Chamomile and Geranium should be avoided during your first trimester, or if you have a previous history of miscarriage.

Hi Tweet_e

I forgot about this post ... thanks for your reply though

I did end up checking about the Perfect Potion with someone who specialises in aromatherapy and found it was safe to use.

I think it really helped in stopping me getting any stretchmarks on my belly, which it proclaimed to stop. Pitty I didn't put it on my breasts though cause that's where I got my stretchmarks, but hey we all need battle scars right smile

Hi Holz,

I actually got that info from a website when I was checking out what was safe for myself - I would think that they mention the use of it in early pregnancy is more the fact that it is an essential oil which is highly concentrated, but I would check with your local health store that it is safe to drink for peace of mind, as I read somewhere that you should drink raspberry leaf tea in the 1st trimester of preg to assist with something (cant remember what) but I had read elsewhere its actually very risky as it can cause haemorrage/miscarriage - I checked this out at my health store & it is only recommended for use in your 3rd trimester for those reasons, so its always best just to check as some information can be misleading & opinions do vary.

Cheers, Arna
