What happens when you go over ?????

Hey guys,

I have 4 days to go but ive got a feeling in going to go over. My bubs head is still not engaged and i know this is common and anything can change but ive still got a feeling shes going to hang in there till she doesnt have a choice lol

I went into labour with my 1st on his due date and so i have no idea what happens if u go over ur due date...... how long will they let me go and what actually happens???

I went seven days over (went into labour six days over), for me they were going to induce me on the 10th day over EDD!!! When I was five days over I had my routine Ob appointment and she did a stretch and sweep, which I believe got things moving... I think it depend on you and your doctor about how long over they will let you go, I think anywhere from seven days to 14 is "normal"... Good luck, not long to go now.

hmmmmmm whats a stretch and sweep?? or do i now want to know?? lol sounds kinda not fun haha

7-14 days WOW i think my son is more over it than me, not sure he can wait that long haha but thanks for the info smile

S & S, correct me if I am wrong anyone, but it is when thd doctor puts a finger "up there" and manually stretches the cervix... Loads of fun, a little bit uncomfortable, but doesn't hurt. I was 1cm dialated, and then went to 2cm with the S & S...

Happy times, there are just so many things to look forward to in pregnancy and delivery!!!

they will let u go up to 14 days over, ds1 came on the 14th day over i was spose to have an app for antenatal and they were gunna induce me at the app if i hadnt gone into labour, but i beat em by a few hrs. lol.

With my DS I had an appointment with the doctor at the hospital the day before my due date. What they did was book me in to be induced when I was 8 days over just incase he didn't come naturally. They also did a S & S. ( Mine hurt!! and I bled a bit aswell which freaked out DH) He hadn't come naturally so I went in to be induced...I had 3 lots of the gel and he came 2 days later.

So I think it just depends on the hospital and the doctor you get as to what they decide to do.

It depends where you are and how things are looking (placenta and emniotic fluid wise mainly), the max they will let you go if everything is looking ok is 16 days. I would highely recommend getting a stretch and sweep done when your due. If you have to be induced they will first either insert the gel onto your cervix to start contractions and/or they will break your waters if nothing happens for 2 hours they will put you on the drip and increase the dose until your in established labour.

DD Was 9 days over due, as soon as i got to 41 weeks & nothing was happening my m/w got me to go for a scan afew days later to see if it was safe to leave bubs a wee bit longer, it was perfectly fine, there was plenty of amniotic fluid etc but when the sonographer said "bubs is looking to be around 9lbs or 10lbs" i was went blink "holey...time to come out baby!" The same day i saw an ob who agreed that induction wasn't a silly idea and he had it arranged for the next night. My m/w said i was already 2-3cm when i got to the hosp, inserted the gel @ 7pm and from there labour started. She broke my waters at 7am and buba was born at 10.32am (and she was 9lbs 3oz lol!)

#1 was 6 days early
With my 2nd i went 10 days over and went into labour and i was going to be induced the next day
#3 i was 12 days over when i went into labour and on the 13th day i ended up with an emerg c-section
and #4 i went 5 days over before i went into labour and there was talk that i might get a s&s at my next midwife appointment.

For me, i was never offered a s&s at any of my midwife appointments, with my 4th i had to ask if i could get one and we were going to see at the next appointment if it was necessary. Also my midwife said they wouldnt induce me with no4 coz of my previous c/section
