Finding a Midwife Lock Rss

My husband and I have just found out we are 5 weeks pregnant and are sooo happy!! This is our first baby, so was wondering if anyone can recommend an awesome midwife in Palmerston North.
Thanks smile
Sorry I don't know anyone but I'd suggest finding a few in the yellow pages and going to see them and deciding which one you get on with better. I went to see a couple of midwives and I'm glad I didnt just pick my first choice. Hope that helps smile
Congratulations on yoor exciting news... things are changing for midwives at the moment so you could contact the local hospital and ask to talk to a midwife in the midwives clinic. She may be able to help you with a casework midwife so its all free or you can have a private homebirth midwife too if that's what you are wanting.
Please check out this website too http://www.babycoachonline for early pregnancy workshops and support
Congrats on the pregnancy.

If you haven't found a midwife....
http://mamaternity.org.nz/maternity-resource-centres/palmerston-north-maternity-resource-centre is a good place to find info about midwives, and you can also book free anti-natal classes done at plunket rooms through them. Highly recommend them & also midwife Jo Henwood at Heretaunga Midwifery Centre. But I heard she fills up super fast so good to book asap
Congrats on your news. I would really recommend Paula Bolt I used her for my last 2 and she was wonderful. Good luck with finding someone and good luck for the next 8 months

DO NOT USE (name removed). I had developed pre-eclampsia and was first pregnancy, the trainee midwife working with her diagnosed me, she was so lazy she missed so many appointments and didnt take my symptoms or concrens seriously. I should not have been allowed to go full term but i did and then she didnt check my urine or blood pressure not once while I was in labour, I ended up in a critical condition and nearly died giving birth - thank god for the hospital team. I also had meconium in my waters, showed her my pad and she said 'thats normal' - it wasnt! My birth and her negligence is now being investigated with the Health and Disability Commission so stay well clear of this midwife!

Hey, sorry you had a hideous experience. You may already be aware of this since your case is with the HDC, but there is this group, action to improve maternity (AIM) that you might be interested in. Here's a link if you want to take a look http://aim.org.nz
