Date Scones (dairy & sugar free) Rss

Hi, here is a recipe for Date Scones which was passed onto me from a friend. It is dairy & sugar free.
My reaction to dairy & sugar free recipes are normally uugghh!! but, trying to provide healthy food for my 16 month old, I decided to give this one a go. I was surprised because I quite liked it myself, as well as my husband (& my daughter) and I have made them today for the second time.

500g Dates
4 cups water
heap of sultanas or chopped walnuts (I use sultanas only)
600g SR Flour
2 dsstpns of Nuttelex (or substitute butter). (I use normal butter)

Boil dates and water together until soft. Mash or blend. Put flour in bowl, rub in butter with fingertips. Pour in date mixture and make soft dough. Place on floured bench and cut out rounds with scone cutter and place on greased oven tray. Cook at 180 degreese for 20 mins only (time specified is for fan forced oven, adjust accordingly).

This freezes quite well, and tastes nicest if served warm (with a little butter). I suppose, seeing as I use normal butter that means that the ones I make are not dairy free, but that does not worry me.
