Rude? Lazy? both? or overreacting? Lock Rss

I live on a corner block. My front yard is open, its all grass, with no fences.

I've had 4 people (adults) walk across my lawn today - 2 of who did it while my kids were playing there. Because they are too lazy to walk around the corner on the footpath. I had another bloke who delivers junk mail, and he does it every week, today, I saw him coming, and just as he was in the middle of my yard, I opened my front door, stepped out and caught him, and told him to go around because I was sick of him being rude and walking across my yard.

Now is this rude, or lazy, or both?
Would it annoy you if people walked across your front lawn because it was quicker than going around the corner? i think it is incredibly rude, I'm sure they wouldn't like me walking across their front yard as I go past.

If you see a corner house block that is open, do you walk across it to save yourself a few seconds, or do you follow the footpath and go around?

ETA - the yellow line in the pics is where they walk.

Urm... i'd probably be one to walk across your lawn just because i like the feel of walking on lawn better than pavement. Lol sorry!

However if there were children playing there I'd walk around. I doubt the people that walk across would be giving it much thought.. just kind of absent-mindedly making a decision without really registering whether or not it might be rude.

No way, I would never feel comfortable cutting through someones yard.
My parents live on a corner block and every now and then they get people doing this. They do the same as you did and tell them to walk around.
Your in the right mums block was like that and people were always doing that she put gardens up and fencing.when i didnt have fencing in the back yard i saw the people who lived behind us would walk up the side of our house to get to there house or out to our front street one time i was cleaning one of the rooms and looked up and saw him walking right past the windows so we have a back fence now . But we dont have a front fence and kids ride there bikes in our yard or on the drive way that pisses me off.

I just think its rude.

I don't do it, I don't teach my kids to do it (I have made my kids go back and use the footpath)

I don't see how it is an absent minded thing - they make a conscious decision to stop using the path, cut across my yard and re-enter the path on the other side of my block
Just want to add that my parents have a well established garden with trees and plants on the corner part, which leaves maybe a two metre gap at the MOST betwtween that and the house (windows all around) and people still do it. Very rude.
I think it's both. They too lazy to walk on the path and they being rude by walking arcoss your lawn.

I live on a corner and people are always doing it <img src='https://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> I even had to wait the other day when I was pulling in my driveway for a guy to move off my lawn so I could get in. People are always dropping rubbish as well, especially bottles. My kids dont play out the front though just the back, I would be really pissed off if people did it while they were playing there!
What I would do is this;

buy a whole lot of mouse traps and set them up in the grass and sit at your window and watch (preferably with a video camera) unsuspecting front garden lawn crossers get the shock of their life and have a good giggle. Maybe they'll think twice next time tongue and as a bonus you might get a good vid to send in to funniest home videos

I would have got out of the car and abused them. How rude are people these days.

bahahahahahahahaha, I would, but then the idiots would sue me.

I actually inquired on our house insurance about coverage for that - if they fall/trip on our lawn, and hurt themselves, I am at fault, and they can sue me (most likely be thrown out of court for them being idiots,) but its my fault, as they were injured on my property. I have insurance for people sustaining injuries on my property.

I was thinking maybe now I'm on the downhill run to 40, that I was becoming an old fuddy, and letting little things piss me off! lol

How utterly ridiculous that people can sue you!! I'm with you, I'd be sooo annoyed by people doing this. Looks like you may have to build a garden along the edge or fence it off. If you put a garden in, run a string around the area too so people don't trample the plants. Sad when you will have to spend money because of lazy, rude idiots!!

just saw your pics... I would never cut across as much as you have shown there. If i were to walk on someones lawn it'd be just on the edge.
