Member who had Listeria last year. Who was it?? Lock Rss

How did you know you had it?

She's a friend of mine...she doesn't really come on here anymore. But I'll tell her you asked. smile
Hey there smile One's enough told me you were after me:)
Ill give you the whole story:)

Ummm, to start off i didnt know i had it, i already had 2 kids and just assumed i had picked up a tummy bug from them. i had a temp of about 38, so went to bed feeling sick and took panadol, i woke up a couple of hours later with a temp of 39.8 (from vauge memory) didnt want to get the kids out of bed to go to the hospital so went back to sleep. Ihad been throwing up all day and had the runs too. We were painting bubs room at the time, so the next day when i was feeling better we got on with it. I was getting weird pains over my belly. My midwife called in the afternoon returning my call from the day before regaurding booking my booking in appt. I mentioned al of the above to the middy and said that just sounds like a weird tummy bug? right??!! she said come down, they took bloods, urine and swab test and decided to keep me in over night as i was so dehydrated it took 2 bags of fluid IV over night and it did nothing, another 2 the next day and i was getting back to normal. i was put on antibiotics as it was suspected as soon as i walked into the hospital. i was so sure it was wrong an went to me gp after 2 days and begged to stop the antibiotics as they were making me so ill. i went off them then they rang me 4 times that night (the gp was a collegue of my ob's) telling me to stay on them and to keep my hubby home from work (he works on the mines).... i stayed on the antibiotics for 2 weeks, i also stayed very ill, slept all day. only getting up for loo breaks and stretch my legs. i then went back into hospital dehydrated stayed the night and was then transfered to king eddie, a specialist hospital for premmies and pregnancy stuff... i was put on iv antibiotics and kept in for 5 days. i was then given more tablets for more the migraines i was getting and they made me sleep more! 12 days before my due date less then 2 weeks after i was discharged (and after a follow up at the hospitals clinic) i was back with my normal ob. I had noticed bubs movements had dramatically dropped. she decided it was not connected to the listeria, but to keep an eye on them. The next day i took myself to hospital as i was concerned about movements and he had a "non reactive heart rate". i was told to come back the next day and see if it was any better... next day i arrived and induced within 20 minutes of walking through the door! 'fetus life compromised' on my paper work.
He was born, with a weird rash over his whole body, he had bloods taken every day for 5 days (heal prick) cord blood taken for cultures, tube shoved down his throat and stomach fluids taken and sent off for tests.
he was born with a chest infection and was on 2 types of iv antibiotics for 2 days then had oral antibiotics for a further 10 days. when he was 1 day old they took blood from a vein, blood cultures, for more testing... ever heard a baby scream from that? I have, dont wanna hear that again!!!

It took a good 2 months for the rash to go. He after all that, was born 8lb 10oz. But at 11 months he is only 8.5kg. So he is a little lad, taking a little while to put on weight. But healthy and happy and doing all the right things.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. smile

But for anyone that didnt know my story, please learn from it and follow the food guide lines. I am lucky he is alive! we caught it early, my little fighter is tough and im very proud of him smile

From what I remember it was a chicken toasted sandwich from a cafe, I may be wrong though.

yes it was a 'freshly made' foccacia from a cafe. I asked if it was all cooked fresh as im pregnant and could eat processed chicken. the woman get mad at me and said yes... it wasnt!!!

I hope you went back and told her your story

They were investigated (I think?) but she mentioned the name of the restaurant on here and was slammed for it. lol.

NSW has a name and shame list of food outlets that is listed with the health dept. maybe all states should have the same

listeria is reportable to the health department. They dealt with them and they got investigated and in trouble.

Hey.
Thanks so much for sharing your story. I have had this flu virus thing for about ten days and it just feels yuck. Never been this sick before. I had read somewhere that listeria starts like a flu virus so googled it and couldnt really get a clear answer. I have really sore achy bones and have had the runs for the last two days but no temp.... Reading your story I dont think I do, but I had a friend's baby pass away last year at 23 weeks from contracting it sad Just really paranoid. Then I remembered that you had it.
How long after eating your sammy did you feel sick? Im so pleased that Riley is doing well. smile Thanks for popping back in to share your story!
xoxox

It doesnt hurt to get checked, but my flu symptoms were mild compared to te vomiting and runs that i had. Achey all over i had too. i out that down to the temp.
i ate the contaminated food on the thursday, started being sick on the friday, was in hospital by the saturday. But that is pretty quick it can take weeks to appear. You would know by now if you had it i think. The temp and the vomiting is a pretty big indicator.
I will also say, the food tasted fine. Very yummy in fact. But the thought of even that cafe turns my stomach!

Buuut, better safe than sorry! if your concerned speak to your ob/gp/midwives ASAP!
Goodluck, and if you have any questions please feel free to ask smile xoxox
