lots of allergy's Rss

My dd is 22 months old and is having many reactions to food she is eating, for example daycare feed her fish fingers ( they supply the food), and she got covered in welts and was generally un well.

She had a appointment with a immunologist but the appointment was weeks away. So i took her to a naturopath who did allergy testing.

She has given me a list of things she is allergic to ( some i already new)
preservatives 220-228, banana's ( dried or fresh), raisins, shellfish, pollen, duck feathers, low allergy to the dog, grasses, vinegar, fish, wheat.

So the naturopath gave us allergy drops she made up for her to take and she said she needed to boost her immune system.

Do you just make every one in the house eat the same as the allergic person?

Should i pack dd's daycare food?

and how have you coped with allergy's in your children and waht have you done ?

thanks

Kelly
I think you need to go back to the immunologist. Allergies are not caused by a weak immune system - they are caused by the immune system inappropriately overreacting to something. Your naturopath's advice is dangerous! You cannot scure allergies with a tonic! Given the misinformation she's given you I'd get her tested for allergies again by someone who knows what they're doing. You could give the daycare centre a list of things your DD is allergic to, and depending on the severity of the reactions they may need some further education.

please do not take the words of a naturopath to heart as they are not trained in this area. modifying diets you need to be under doctors care.
depending on how bad the allergy is. wheater the food is banned from the house my DD is allergic to peanuts and walnuts quite badly so they are banned from the house. but when she was young we had food that she was mildly allergic to. you will find over time that most of the time you will all eat the same diet as you dd. you might modifiy dinner i use to talk out dd food before adding in things that she could not eat.
I would be talking to the day care and ask them if they will try to allocate food suited to your daughters needs or if you have to pack her lunch.

as for the natro path I agree that she may have found the things that your dd is allergic to but i disagree that some drops will completely cure the allergic reaction in your child. might help but won't cure.

I myself and my ds1 and ds2 are allergic to dairy products. but no we do not make everyone eat a dairy free diet. just me and the two boys. my girl and my partner still enjoy their dairy. It is hard on ds1 at times when he sees his sister having things that he cannot eat but i try to give him something that he likes just as much but isn't dairy.

Have a quick squize of this website. might give a little help too.

note.

I was also taken to a natro path for allergies and they gave us a list of things that i was supposed to be allergic to but i found out later in life that most of them were just intollerances to food not actual allergies. hope this helps
I have dealt with Naturopaths in regards to my DD's severe allergies. But we also see a Paediatric Allergy Specialist as well.

The way I read your post, and from my own experiences with Naturopaths, the drops are to boost her immune system, NOT to cure her allergies have people have thought.

When a child has multiple allergies, their immune systems are naturally lower than that of a child who doesn't have allergies. Their little bodies are constantly overcompensating to protect from food allergies and such, that when they get a common cold or cough, it takes them longer to fight it off.

So, I think that the Naturopath has prescribed drops simply to boost your DD's immune sytem, NOT to cure her of her allergies, but rather to help her immune system fight against them. Does that sound right?

OR are they drops that are meant to de-sensitize her to certain allergens? Cos there are a lot of strict rules and routines around these sorts of drops.

im going to the specialsit in cairns for her allergies this saturday. we have waited 4 months for the appointment with the private specialisit dr solly.

Will have more answers on saturday afternoon.

And the natropath gave us 2 sets of drops one for her immune system and the other to help with her allergies. And so far the allergy drops are not helping.

thankyou for your replies
