so its a done deal Rss

Yep, everything has a domino affect. Sure they say they will offer us rebates and all that but food, petrol and so forth will go right up even if not actually directly carbon taxed.

The government is a joke and the thing is even if Tony Abott gets voted in claiming he will remove it, a million bucks says he leaves it in place. They never go back on a tax or if they do the prices don't drop.

OHHHHH SOOOO TRUE!!!

A bit like the liberal parties lies and BS about GST and work choices.

Yep, exactly like the GST. Didn't John Howard say there would be no GST under a liberal govt? And yet he recovered to serve as PM for 11 years. Bet no-one called him a mole...

But he got rid of debt DIDNT RUN IT UP!!!! That is all Labour is good for increasing our debt!!

I think atleast the money went to repaying our debts aus had from when labour was in government.... and how much debt they run up that takes a LONNNNGGGGG time to get rid of!!!

Bet no-one called him a mole...

Hes a mole too...they all are roll eyes laugh
I find it interesting (stupid) that the government have spend more money advertising for/against and rallying for/against the carbon tax than the carbon tax is actually going to bring in! It's just mind boggling blink

Edit: Just checked and we will be $13 per week worse off (over $600 a year sad)
I don't understand if that estimator is telling me we're better off or worse off.... there are 5 different sections all with a money sum in it and I don't know whether that means I'm paying them or they're paying me!

A bit like the liberal parties lies and BS about GST and work choices. Unfortunately all governments are the same...they lie and feed the public BS to get elected...Its a luck of the draw really as to who will cause the least amount of harm to the least amount of people and the voting public dont always get it right. And we do have to accept that they are only human and humans are essentially flawed and so will make flawed decisions...it sucks that their choices effect us all. And among the bad decisions have come many good ones like removing Work Choices and the fact that our country was saved from most of the devastating effects of the global financial crisis because of decisions made by our government.

sorry but i have to say something.

yes all polies lie but i personally think the gst is a good thing and has been operating in other countries for years. liberal never said they were not doing the gst whereas gilard specifically used that as her marketing campaig to earn trust and then did the opposite.

also whenevr the labour government is in power they bring the country to its knees and rake up debt. the only reason we were ok fduring the finacial crisis is because the d!ckhead k.rudd was handy out money mindlessly because when lberal were in we were in the red we had money saved up and he just went and threw it all away.

GO LIBERAL

The day i broke up with normal was the first day of my magical life...

Hmm according to that calculator thingy I *think* (if I'm understanding properly lol) the government assistance we will get is $3 a YEAR which will come via tax changes laugh laugh laugh The estimated price impact on us is $902 <img src='https://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

They can keep their $3, I don't want it!!

And for the record... Politicians suck, all of them roll eyes

Actually Howard specifically said, "There's no way a GST will ever be part of our policy.....Never ever" It was only a little over 2years later that it was introduced.

Isn't this a bit of a condtradiction? We're were okay during the gfc but Rudd was a d!ckhead for handing out the money which probably went a long way to cushioning the effects that we felt?

the only reason the money was there was because of howard. all labour has done was make debt. so it was easy for him to hand out money left right and centre. what would he of done if the liberals hadn't saved so much money?

I think it's irrelevant what he would have done if liberal hadn't saved so much money, as they did, so it was there for him to hand out - and it had the desired effect. I imagine the pros and cons of handing out the money were weighed up before it happened. We will never know what may have happened if liberal had of stayed in power, or if there was no money to hand out, and I'm not going to waste any time wondering. I specifically remember John Howard promising there would never be a GST - and there was! I have no idea what circumstances our government were in to go back on their election promise of no carbon tax, but I imagine it wasn't a simple situation. I am reserving my judgment until I see what happens after it is put into place.

Where the heck do you think the Libs got all the money "they saved up" as you put.. Umm they got it from selling assets and increasing our taxes. The money didnt just come from thin air. And John Howard did specifically say there would be no GST. If you cast your mind back, it was the Liberal guy (cant think of his name) that was honest and said he was going to implement a GST, hence the reason why little Johnny got elected in the first place.

Cracks me up that everyone on here is whinging about money and prices going up.

I'm no greanie, but not one of you has mentioned the affect pollution and the crap these massively big companies emit is having. Why not make them pay for the crap they are putting in our air, the crap that we breathe in, that our kids breathe in etc.
