Ok I'm confused......Still Lock Rss

So the local daycare centre has a spot for DD and tommorow we are going to have a look around. I have been on to centrelink to see if we can recieve the Child Care benifit and we can. I did ask the lady but I am still confused. What is the differnce between the Child care Benifit and the Child care rebate? She said something like we would get a 60% benifit and a 50% rebate. Does anyone know what the differnce is I read the website but it still confuses me.

I thought the 60% came off the centres rates but apparntley they egt the 30% rebate to. What the! Now I'm not a tight ass or anything but I just wish I could understand the whole thing. Guess this is why I don't deal with centrelink very often. <img src='https://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

From what I understand the child care benefit is the cheaper fees. Depending on how much you earn is how much you'll get. My DS goes 2 days a week and we get the 100% benefit. As I'm a SAHM we don't get the rebate, you have to be working or studying at least 15 hours per week to get that. Also if you don't work you can only qualify for 24 hours at the reduced rate.Hope that makes sense and helps you out. I was so confused aswell when DS first went.

Also with the rebate you can either get it paid back to you or the centre. You can get it paid back to you fortnightly, quarterly or yearly.

As far as I know the childcare rebate everyone gets, I think you have to work a certain amount though(I worked approx 20hrs a wk and got it) and it is 50% off. The chidlcare benefit and the amount you get off is dependant on your family income. We only got the childcare rebate and we got it paid half yearly but I think they changed it so you can get it paid more often, not too sure how often though.
That makes more sense! So is the rebate a "rebate" of the fees that you paid? So if I pay $25 dollars for DD after the benifit, does a rebate come of the $25. I chose to have it go back to centre so does that also come of dd's fees. Sorry I am such a bimbo sometimes. smile I don't really care about the rebate the benifit will do me just fine smile

In that instance you would only have to pay half of the $25. But to confuse you more, you have to pay the full $25 straight up and then you will either get it rebated fortnightly (wont start until you have paid two full fortnights of $25/day), quartly or yearly.

The rebate is 50% of your out of pocket expenses. For example if you pay $100 a day and your CCB is 60% you are out of pocket $40. Of that $40 the govt will rebate you a further $20.

Aha! I got it now, thank-you ladies smile

When my DS attended Pre school his fees were $65 per day,for the childcare benefit we only got $2 off per day so ended up paying the $63. We weren't able to claim the childcare rebate as I don't work or study but just to give you and expamle if we were able to claim it we would get 50% of that $63 back
It is such a stupid system that the guy at centrelink couldn't even explain it to me!!

As we weren't sure what my income was likely to be we have asked centrelink to not pay us a cent until tax time so there is no chance of us having to pay money back to them. It does mean that we pay the full amount to the childcare centre through the year though, so it is like forced savings (I know not everyone is able to do that).
It seriously is so confusing! It took me the first 6 months of DH going to day care before I understood. To complicate things further for us, we aren't entitled to any benefit but we do get the rebate. Confused the crap out of me!!!!!!

opps I meant DS going to day care... DH recently graduated! LMAO!!!
