FAQs

The definition of “biodegradable” refers to the ability of a material to break down to its natural components.
The base sheet of Huggies Bio Baby Wipes is 50% pulp and 50% rayon, both biodegradable materials. Huggies Bio baby Wipes were also tested for their ability to biodegrade under the Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) test method.
Huggies Bio Baby Wipes were tested under the Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) test method in controlled anaerobic conditions and were found to fully biodegrade at the same rate as cellulose (cellulose is the main substance found in the cell walls of plants, is typically used to make paper). However, the rate of degradation in real life conditions in landfill may vary.
“Compostable” refers to the ability of a product to be broken down into compost when placed in an industrial or home composting facility. Home composting is not ideal for any product contaminated with human pathogens, due to the high temperatures required to kill harmful bacteria. As Huggies Bio Baby Wipes will inevitably come in contact with human pathogens e.g. diaper changes, we have not tested their suitability for home composting.
Note: industrial composting for soiled nappies or wipes is currently not widely available in Australia.
